Can anyone please suggest me any best hybrid for my 9800. I am having serious battery issues with my 9800 this time I am running .747
I am also facing that spinning clock almost every 10 minutes. Wiped my device many times and reloaded os again but same problem. Although I don't have many apps installed on my device just 4 of them. Now please suggest me any nice latest hybrid that is best in matter of battery life and also in performance. Thanks :)

KAPPA PRIME for the 9810 is here!!!

Hot on the heels of Eta and Theta Prime comes Kappa Prime. This is one of the fastest loading hybrid OS made, to date.

It's also one of the best OS for longest battery life. I've compiled many a hybrid for the 9810, and have yet to experience the performance of Kappa Prime

Installation instructions: WARNING!!!

If you do NOT have experience in installing a hybrid or have not spent the proper time informing yourself about hybriding, DO NOT install this hybrid. Your device is not my device, and this hybrid and its parts my wreck havoc on your phone and its operating system. That said, anyone in need of additional support after a successful installation must provide a system read and report. If any of what I’m saying sounds foreign to you, DO NOT PROCEED.

As with the former Primes, installation is simple: download and save Kappa Prime.zip to your desktop, unzip the content to your desktop; next - if you haven't already - download and install Star Hub 7.1.0.794 OS to your computer, once installation is complete, navigate to the Loader Files folder, open, and rename the official .794 folder "(official os)" and leave this folder open; drag and drop Kappa Prime's folder into the open Loader Files folder and delete "(Kappa Prime)" in the name string of that folder.

You are now ready to install a Prime hybrid OS.

I recommend using BBHTools to unshrink any apps that I've already shrunk - because I use alot of betas - then shrink to your liking.

As usual, I'm here to fully support Kappa Prime. If there's anything outside of the subject of this thread, that you may need assistance with, PM me.

Install and enjoy. Happ holidays

Hybrid OS5 with OS6 media player? (Want to play ogg vorbis on OS5)

I have a blackberry Bold 9650 and I want to play ogg vorbis files but I don't want to upgrade to OS6 because I do not have BIS and nor do I want to pay for that service. The stock OEM OS6 version I found to be slower and the internet for me was completely unusable! So, I ask, is there an OS5 hybrid that allows you to use the OS6 media player so that OGG files can be played? Also want to know if this OS can also be used on a Black Berry Bold 9000 as I have that phone as well.

What makes a hybrid stand out and which one is the one for you?

So i've always been fascinated with hybrids since the day they got offered.

Hybrids are essentially optimized / downsized version of a complete BlackBerry OS.
They are in most cases stripped down of the unnecessary parts (this is called "shrinking") and they are custom built with files from other OS versions to provide the most optimal and stable mix.

There are however several hybrid builders in this community and they all offer different hybrids. Unfortunately they do not provide changelogs nor do they provide any explanation as to why their hybrid mix is the one to use on your phone.
They don't have to, in part because they are respected and trusted members of this community, and because they are not forcing you to use their hybrid. Don't like it? Don't use it.

I started this thread to get some more insight in the hybrid building process. I am curious as to why there are so many differences between hybrids. I know hybrid builders don't randomly pump in files so there has to be a reasoning behind it.

I did a file comparison between 2 popular hybrids. BL Ultimate Xmas Special and Kappa Prime 9810 (only JAVA folder comparison).
There are quite some differences even though they were roughly created and released at the same time. HTML and PDF comparison (no need to download)

Compare C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\RC X-mas Edition\Java with C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9810AllLang_v7.1.0.746_P5.1.0.546\Java

Left side is the X-Mas edition, right side is the Kappa Prime edition.
As you can see the X-Mas edition has some newer versions of OS files while Kappa Prime uses some older versions. Some files are missing with hybrid one and some are missing with hybrid two.
I'm actually curious as to why this difference exist. Surely all hybrid builders try and create a hybrid that's the best, so apparently their opinions differ. Do hybrid builders focus on speed or stability or maybe both or maybe something entirely different...

Any hybrid builder or expert wants to shed some light on this?

This is not to find out which hybrid is the best, this is merely to find out why a specific hybrid is created (speed, stability, memory improvements, gps lock, stronger wifi,...) and to comprehend the reasoning behind the hybrid builder's choice of file versions.

Is there a hybrid for the BlackBerry Curve 9310?!

I've searched high and low to no avail.

I can't upgrade my device 'cause the leaked OS is no longer present.

Confused over BerryLicio.us Hybrids

Thinking of installing a Hybrid OS while waiting for BB10, and have been reading the various threads.

I'm confused about the various BerryLicio.us versions:

  • BerryLicious Returns, for OS 6 and 7.1
  • BerryLicio.US Ultimate Hybrid for 9300, 97xx and 9800 (9/13/2012)
  • Berrylicious OS6 and 7 Hybrid for 9700 and 9800

Am I correct in that Returns supersedes Ultimate Hybrid, which superseded Hybrid? There are various posts buried in each thread on the each version that kinda-sorta say that, but nothing definitive.

Thanks.

Hybrid install choices

So, thinking of installing a Hybrid OS while waiting for BB10. A faster browser would be nice. Spent most of the day reading various threads here (it's slow at work right now :D), and these appear to be my choices:

  • B@stard - Aorist (20121217)
  • BerryLicious Returns, for OS 6 and 7.1
  • OSBB 707v6 for OS6 BlackBerrys (11/17/2012)
  • Raikkohad 747 Edition 3 (Hybrid For OS6 Devices)

This is almost as bad as picking a Linux distro. :crying:

What's the difference in these builds?

I'd be interested in how y'all made your choice on what to try, and how you determined if it worked for you.

Thanks.

Removing a 'system' module

Hello. I am not sure if this is the correct home for my question, but I was wondering if there is a way to delete a single module from my OS. I am running OS 7.1.0.477 and was hoping to delete a 'net_rim_bb' file in my system software without too much of a PITA. Is it possible. Well, of course it is. It's all zeros and ones; I guess the more appropriate question is: Is it something the average user can do without bricking my phone.

Any wifi hotspot hybrid for AT&T 9900 yet?

Hey there crackberry abusers.
I searched before I posted this, but all I found were old threads. Is there a newer hybrid for AT&T 9900 that does not have the wifi hotspot disabled? I'm not looking to use it a lot, so I'm not worried about throttling.
I was thinking about making a hybrid, and look for the wifi hotspot file, but its beyond my knowledge.
If it can be done, and no one has made it yet, I guess I could read up on it and figure it out.

Thanks cb nation

B@stard Hybrid: Apt (20130118)

Created by wu-wei

Those of you who regularly use my builds know the drill, but this one incorporates new files from the recently-released 7.1.0.825 OS.

I have streamlined this build considerably, and I left many files as base version in favor of stability.

This build has been through just some basic testing, but performs quite well relative to my previous builds.

My hybrids go through testing on several devices, and I am confident that my builds work well on all OS6 devices.

Recommended base OS versions:

9300: 6.0.0.749
9650: 6.0.0.707 (or 6.0.0.719)
9700: 6.0.0.749
9780: 6.0.0.749
9800: 6.0.0.749

*For all 6.0.0.749 OS installers, Go to Austria -> Free Download Area -> Endgeräte -> Rim Devices -> *DEVICE* -> Handheld Software 6.0 rel 3159

While these base OSes are recommended, Apt will work over any 6.0.0.6xx or .7xx OS. If you have found another OS in those series that works best for you, certainly feel free to use that one instead.

Please note that some users have reported a "break-in" period with any hybrid. That is, the first day or so has poor battery life, but then things stabilize and we start sipping at the battery again. Battery life is critically important to me, so I am always mindful of those issues (and reluctant to leave my beloved 9700 for some shiny new OS7 device). I have not experienced this phenomenon myself, but I did want to mention that it is possible.

To install this hybrid, extract the contents of this zip file into the Java folder of the base OS you choose to use. On my system, these files were extracted into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700M_v6.0.0.749_P6.6.0.250\Java.

When you extract the cod files into the folder listed above, you should be prompted to confirm that you want to replace existing files. If you are not prompted, then you are probably trying to extract to the wrong directory and the hybrid files will not be installed on your device.

If you do not know exactly what you're doing, then you should choose one of the following options:

1. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS HYBRID.
2. Read my guide on the CrackBerry forums, available here: Hybrid OS Installation Guide
3. Read any How To posts by elite1 in practically any hybrid or leaked OS thread on CrackBerry.com
4. Search the CrackBerry forums and read as much as you can find about how the BlackBerry OS loader process works.

This package does NOT include any third party applications at all. I build hybrid OSes. I do not promote any apps or force users to choose whether they want to install apps they may not want. If you are looking for a particular third party app, I probably have an opinion about it and may be able to tell you where to find it (I'm talking free or paid versions, NOT WAREZ).

Figure I'll leak this one, before .861 becomes official for our devices.

With all the BB10, Zed10 and Q10 news, the few of us that remain owners of 9810's have been pushed to the side. Even when I eventually upgrade to a Zed, my second line is slotted for my Torch. It's reliable, it connects to my PlayBook without issue...it just plain works. Here's my latest creation, in the effort to maintain and enhance our trusty devices.

There are a bunch of updates, to core apps, along with some new features. One that stands out is the wifi disconnect warning. I think it's cool. Faster boot times, and signal lock are also present. As usual, an overall balanced OS, with .825 at its core, and .861 running rampant.

You are now ready to install a Prime hybrid OS.

Can hybrids be GSM/CDMA specific?

If I understand the hybrid build process (please correct me if I'm wrong), the sfi isn't messed with, just the cods. So, I'm wondering how a build would be primarily for CDMA or GSM devices.
